Grief
As curator and a participating artist in “Fascination of Decay,” the series “Grief” was inspired by the premise of the book of the same title but mostly is based on the contemporary collection of photographs from the 100 Abandoned Houses Project by Detroit photographer Kevin Bauman. Bauman’s photographs reflect a decayed city left by a decreasing population. The houses depicted in the photographs are abandoned, overgrown, vandalized, and slowly wiped away.
The series “Grief” looks to glamorize decay of all stages much like the artists in the book but uses contemporary, iconic imagery to do so. Through color and presentation, each piece asks to be a permanent monument to the ruins around us today.
